Installing & Using the Chrome Extension

1 min read

Why You Need the Extension #

The PenguinDMs Chrome Extension helps you fetch your Slack user token (xoxd-) quickly and securely, without digging through browser cookies or DevTools.

It’s mainly built for convenience. You can still find your token manually, but this extension saves time by showing it in one click.

Along with your token, it can also display your Workspace ID (which you’ll need when creating campaigns inside PenguinDMs).

In short:
→ It’s not required, but it makes setup 10x faster and easier.

2. Install & Pin the Extension #

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for “PenguinDMs”
(or just open this link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/slack-user-token-fetcher/nkccnfhmihngckljoelhcbnhbhjildcg).
  2. Click Add to Chrome → Add Extension.
The extension will appear in your browser once installed.

  3. After installation, pin it to your Chrome toolbar for easy access.
    • Click the small puzzle icon 🧩 (top-right corner of Chrome).
    • Find “Slack User Token Fetcher | by PenguinDMs” in the list.
    • Click the pin icon 📌 next to it.

Now you’ll always see the PenguinDMs icon in your toolbar, ready whenever you open Slack.

(The toolbar is the small bar at the top-right of your browser, beside the address bar.)

3. Open Slack in Your Browser #

The extension only works on the web version of Slack (app.slack.com).
It won’t work on the desktop app.

  1. Open app.slack.com in Google Chrome.
  2. If you’re not logged in, sign in with your Slack account.
  3. You’ll see a list of all workspaces linked to your email.
Just click “Launch Slack” for the one you want.

Make sure you open the exact Slack workspace you want to use in PenguinDMs. Tokens and workspace IDs are different for every workspace.

4. Fetch Your Token & Workspace ID #

Once you’re inside your Slack workspace (in Chrome):

  1. Click the PenguinDMs extension icon in the toolbar.
  2. Press the “Fetch Token” button.
  3. In a second, you’ll see two things appear:
    • Slack User Token (starts with xoxd-…)
    • Workspace ID (starts with T…)
  4. Click Copy next to each value.
  5. Paste them into your PenguinDMs dashboard when creating a campaign.

That’s it. You’ve got everything you need without digging through cookies, developer tools, or any scripts.

5. Privacy & Security #

The extension works entirely inside your browser.

  • Nothing is stored, tracked, or sent anywhere.
  • Your token and workspace ID are only fetched when you click “Fetch Token.”
  • Everything you see stays local; this means 100% under your control.
  • No background activity, analytics, or auto-sending to PenguinDMs.

We believe your Slack data should stay private; that’s why you copy and paste your token yourself.

Note:

The extension just saves time.
You could find your Slack token manually, but this tool makes it a one-click process.

Use it once, keep your token safe, and you’re ready to start sending DMs with PenguinDMs.
